In conjunction with the “AfterWARd: The Revolutionary Veterans Who Built America” special exhibition, “Stand Up Comedy Night: Veterans Take the Mic” on Saturday, November 11, features the talent of graduates of Comedy Bootcamp, a seven-week workshop offered by the Armed Services Arts Partnership.
The “AfterWARd” special exhibition chronicles the post-war lives of veterans of the Siege of Yorktown and includes a series of programs and presentations connecting America’s veterans, past and present.
The Veterans Day performance features 10 alumni of Comedy Bootcamp: Bobby BlackHat Walters of the U.S. Coast Guard; William Breckenridge of the U.S. Army; Mae Brayton, a Navy spouse; Arthur Rizer of the U.S. Army; Maureen Normann of the U.S. Army; Maria Batdorff of the U.S. Navy; Adam Foutz of the U.S. Marine Corps; April Goodwin of the U.S. Army; Ty Bratton of the U.S. Air Force; and Maurice Johnson of the U.S. Navy.
The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) helps veterans, service members, and military families reintegrate into their communities through the arts. ASAP promotes expression, skill-building, and camaraderie through seven- to ten-week classes in stand-up comedy, improv, storytelling and creative writing. ASAP then partners with local colleges, arts organizations, and performance venues to offer its graduates continuous opportunities for artistic and personal growth. In the process, ASAP provides participants with transferable life skills, a renewed sense of purpose, and healing benefits, and strengthens ties between veterans and their communities through the arts. The organization has been recognized by Americans for the Arts as a national leader in engaging veterans through the arts.
Admission to this evening performance is $14.00. Doors open at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The “AfterWARd” special exhibition and museum gift shop will be open from 7 to 8 p.m.
