We’re ready to welcome you back to Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. With your well-being in mind, we have established new protective protocols and social-distancing procedures to carefully create a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.
But while we’ve had to make some adjustments to our operations, one thing will never change – we remain committed to providing an educational, engaging and exciting museum experience that connects visitors with the stories of our shared history in a very real way.

What to expect when you visit.
Based on current guidelines from the Virginia Governor’s Office, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health officials, all staff members have completed advance training to protect themselves and those who visit Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. We’ve retooled our daily programming and implemented a range of enhanced safety measures designed to welcome you back safely this season:
MASKS REQUIRED: Face coverings are mandatory for all staff, visitors and volunteers, and available for purchase in our gift shops.
ENHANCED CLEANING: New hand-sanitizing stations and increased practices to disinfect high-touch areas every 30 minutes.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Informational videos, directional signage and posted instructions promote proper physical distancing.
CAPACITY CONTROL: Access to designated elements of our indoor and outdoor activities will be temporarily limited. State guidelines limit access to indoor museum spaces to 250 people at one time.
LIMITED CONTACT: Navigate our galleries and living-history areas with the help of virtual tours available on your mobile device.
What to know before you visit.
We’re excited to offer new opportunities for you to explore life in early America, but we do ask that you please respect the following museum rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all:
RULE #1. Per standards mandated by the State of Virginia, face coverings are REQUIRED INDOORS at all times, and highly recommended in the OUTDOOR areas. If you did not come equipped, we can help.
RULE #2. Keep at least six feet of distance between your party and those around you, including other visitors and museum staff. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to enjoy daily demonstrations of colonial life with historical interpreters – just from a safe social distance.
RULE #3. Hygiene is just as important now as it was in the 17th and 18th centuries. Washroom facilities and additional hand-sanitizing stations are available throughout the indoor and outdoor areas, so wash your hands whenever you can – especially if you touch an object or surface.
RULE #4. Be respectful of others’ personal space and follow instructions to prevent overcrowding. Look for posted signs indicating guidelines for exploring indoor and outdoor areas and maximum capacity allowed at one time – preventing you from being confined in close quarters.
RULE #5… Access the full detailed list of all our modifications to museum operations at historyisfun.org/update.
For those looking to extend the museum experience, gift shops and cafés are open at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and have taken extra precautions to provide a safe shopping experience. For visitors who prefer reduced contact with others, we offer touchless options to pre-order meals from our cafés over the phone and shop online for a wide variety of items at shophistoryisfun.com.
We encourage you to purchase tickets online in advance of your visit to limit physical contact. Private tours, guided tours and semi-guided tours are all available, with limitations to group size. Reservations are required in advance by contacting (757) 253-4939 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
