Summer History Camps at Jamestown Settlement & American Revolution Museum at Yorktown Go Virtual

Digital Explorers to Offer Live Online Summer Fun June 24 to August 19

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., June 17, 2020 ­– Summer history camps are going virtual at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown with the launch of a new Digital Explorers program offering summertime fun for families online with crafts, activities, stories and live learning opportunities for one hour each week, June 24 to August 19.

Digital Explorers Virtual Summer Camp

Designed for students in Grades 1-3, this interactive digital camp will be hosted by museum educators each Wednesday at 10-11 a.m. June 24-July 22 at Jamestown Settlement and July 29-August 19 at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.

Registration is now open for up to 30 unique connections, and allows families with multiple children to register as one unit. The cost for the program is $25 for four weeks at either museum and $45 for the full eight weeks at both museums. Members of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Inc. Annual Fund gift clubs ($100 or more) receive a 10-percent discount.

Jamestown Digital Explorers – June 24 to July 22: Join museum educators from Jamestown Settlement to learn about life for the Powhatan Indians, English and west central Africans in 17th-century Virginia. Programs explore housing and construction on June 24, waterways and transportation on July 1, Powhatan Indian pottery on July 8, and environmental science on July 22.

Yorktown Digital Explorers – July 29 to August 19: Join museum educators from the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown to learn about life for ordinary citizens and soldiers in the 18th century. Programs delve into spies of the Revolution on July 19, children of the Revolution on August 5, the Continental Army’s 400-mile march from New York to Virginia on August 12, and the gardens of Virginia planters on August 19.

Traditional summer history camps at the museums were cancelled in response to COVID-19. Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown are scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, June 24, with adjustments to operations and access to outdoor living-history areas and gallery exhibits following new safety protocols and social-distancing procedures.
