WILLIAMSBURG, Va., May 30, 2018 – Jamestown Settlement’s Godspeed, a re-creation of one of the three vessels that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607, will participate in the 42nd Annual Norfolk Harborfest® June 8-10.
Jamestown Settlement’s Godspeed will take part in a parade of sail that starts in Hampton Roads and arrives off Town Point Park at noon, Friday, June 8. The ship will be docked at Norfolk’s Waterside Marina throughout the weekend and will be open for public tours 3 to 6 p.m. on June 8 and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10.
After its commissioning at Jamestown Settlement in May 2006, the Godspeed sailed to six ports along the Eastern seaboard to launch an 18-month commemoration of America’s 400th Anniversary. Since 2007 the Godspeed has undertaken several voyages each year to Virginia ports, and is a frequent participant in Norfolk Harborfest.
While the Godspeed is away from Jamestown Settlement, a living-history museum of 17th-century Virginia operated by the state’s Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, visitors will have access to the Susan Constant and Discovery, re-creations of the other two 1607 vessels.
The Godspeed is sailed by a crew of Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation staff and volunteers, and its voyages are supported with private donations. Jamestown Settlement is located on State Route 31 and the Colonial Parkway (2110 Jamestown Road) next to Historic Jamestowne, site of the original 1607 settlement.
