WILLIAMSBURG, Va., March 29, 2010 – One admission ticket purchased online now equals seven consecutive days of unlimited visits to Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center, state-operated museums where the story of the nation’s beginnings – from the arrival of America’s first permanent English colonists in 1607 to the American Revolution and the adoption of the Constitution almost two centuries later – unfolds year-round.
The online “History is Fun!” ticket, available at hif.ciniva.net/Vacation-Packages.htm, is offered at the same price – $19.25 per adult and $9.25 for ages 6 through 12 – as a combination ticket purchased on location for a single visit to each museum and represents close to a 20 percent savings over individual museum admission.
At Jamestown Settlement, an introductory film and expansive gallery exhibits chronicle 1600s Virginia in the context of its Powhatan Indian, European and African cultures. Outdoors, visitors interact with historical interpreters at a re-created Powhatan Indian village, replicas of the three 1607 English ships, a colonial fort representing the 1610-14 time period, and a seasonal riverfront discovery area exploring cultural exchange and economic activities.
At the Yorktown Victory Center, a museum of the American Revolution, gallery exhibits and an evocative film portray the Revolutionary era from the perspectives of ordinary men and women. Outdoors, visitors learn about 18th-century medical care and may be invited to join an artillery crew at a Continental Army encampment, and can help water the garden or process flax at a re-created farm of the 1780s.
In addition to the value-priced combination ticket – good for seven consecutive days if purchased online – individual museum admission tickets and an annual pass are available. Jamestown Settlement is $14.00 for adults, $6.50 for ages 6-12. The Yorktown Victory Center is $9.50 for adults, $5.25 for ages 6-12. The American Heritage Annual Pass for both museums is $35.00 for adults, $17.50 for ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free.
