WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A federal National Scenic Byways Program grant of $396,000 has been awarded through the Virginia Department of Transportation for “Marketing the Colonial Parkway and America’s Historic Triangle.”
The grant application was prepared by the state’s Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, which operates Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center history museums, in partnership with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, the Williamsburg Hotel and Motel Association, and Colonial National Historical Park, which includes the parkway, Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield.
The grant supports marketing the Colonial Parkway – connecting Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown – and nearby attractions through creation of a Web page, print advertising and a brochure. The goal of the project is to increase awareness and use of the parkway and visitation in the surrounding area in the period leading up to the 225th anniversary of the Siege of Yorktown in 2006 and the commemoration in 2007 of the 400th anniversary of the founding of America’s first permanent English colony.
