'Family Frights' Returns to Jamestown Settlement October 26 & 27 for Fifth Year of Family-Friendly Halloween Fun

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., October 2, 2018 – “Family Frights at Jamestown Settlement,” a Halloween-theme museum night for children and families, returns for the fifth year on Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27. Festivities include trick-or-treating, ghostly tales and grisly games from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on both dates.

This scary good time for the entire family starts with mysterious minstrels, also known as the Cigar Box String Band, entertaining visitors at the ghoulish gazebo. Heading towards the 1607 ships’ pier and along the Forest of Frights boardwalk, where ghostly specters dot the landscape, children can compete in ghostly games like pumpkin bowling and hula-hoop and beanbag toss, or enjoy creepy crafts, freaky face painting and fortunetelling. Trick-or-treaters can climb aboard a haunted Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, each with its own unique theme, raiding the ships for their fill of tasty treasures to take home.

Smoke, lanterns and sound effects create a spooky setting in Jamestown Settlement’s re-created early 1600s fort. Along with even more trick-or-treating at buildings in this living-history area, families can explore friendly and frightful haunted houses centered around this year’s themes, “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” featuring Little Red Riding Hood and The Frog Prince, and “Heroes & Villains of Gotham” with long-time foes Batman and Poison Ivy.

Admission is $7 per child, ages 4-12, and $3 per adult. Children ages 3 and under are free. Each party must include at least one adult over age 18. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at Jamestown Settlement. Tickets also will be available at the door. Annual passes and other discounts do not apply.

Jamestown Settlement, a museum of 17th-century Virginia, is located at 2110 Jamestown Road. For more information about Family Frights, visit http://www.historyisfun.org/jamestown-settlement/fright-nights-at-jamestown-settlement/ or call (757) 253-4838.
