YORKTOWN, Va., May 24, 2012 – A grant of $50,000 from the Beazley Foundation, Inc., of Portsmouth will support gallery exhibits in the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown planned to replace the Yorktown Victory Center. A legacy of the late Fred W. Beazley, the foundation provides grants for an array of organizations and programs serving southeastern Virginia.
The Yorktown Victory Center, a museum of the American Revolution, will undergo a transformation over the next several years. Construction of a new 80,000-square-foot structure will allow visitors and students to experience expanded museum galleries, classrooms and visitor services all in one building. The two outdoor living-history areas, a re-created Continental Army encampment and Revolution-era farm, will be enhanced. The “American Revolution Museum at Yorktown” name will be implemented when the project is complete.
A public-private partnership is moving the project forward. Gifts and grants from foundations, individuals and corporations will support critical elements of gallery exhibits – such as acquisition of period artifacts and development of interactive media – as well as living-history programs and educational resources, each of which is important to creating an effective multigenerational museum learning environment.
