Players Find Their ‘Artifactually’ Perfect Match with Online Personality Quiz from Jamestown Settlement

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., October 16, 2018 – Launching today on HistoryisFun.org, a new online personality quiz invites participants to ask themselves, if you were a 17th-century artifact from Virginia, which would you be? “Artifactually Yours” sets out to prove artifacts have personalities, just like people, matching “free spirits” with a Powhatan rattle, those “cool-under-pressure” with Angolan bellows and “loyal friends” with an English bodkin.

Featuring artifacts used by the Powhatan Indian, Angolan or English cultures that converged in Virginia in the 1600s, the quiz provides an amusing take on history with a peek behind the exhibit cases in Jamestown Settlement’s 30,000-square-foot gallery space, one-third of which are currently being prepared for the second phase of a $10.6 million refresh beginning this fall. By mid-2019, the gallery enhancement will expand the storyline of 17th-century Virginia and historical events marking 400-year milestones in conjunction with the 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution.

In “Artifactually Yours,” players select one of four possible responses to each of 10 questions and are then “matched” with one of 16 artifacts from the era – reflecting the diversity of the three cultures that lived in Jamestown in the early 17th-century – with a description detailing who used it and what it was used for appearing alongside an image of the artifact. Players can discover the artifactually perfect match for their personality by accessing the quiz on Jamestown Settlement’s social media pages or directly at historyisfun.org/artifactually-yours.

At Jamestown Settlement, a living-history museum of 17th-century Virginia history and culture, visitors explore the story of America’s first permanent English colony through immersive film and interactive gallery exhibits, daily hands-on activities and historical interpretation in outdoor re-creations of a Powhatan Indian village, three 1607 ships and colonial fort.
