Private Tours, Vacation Packages Among Options to Visit Jamestown Settlement, American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – From private tours to vacation packages, travelers will find a variety of ways to plan a visit to Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, living-history museums that tell the story of the nation’s beginnings through engaging experiences in gallery exhibits and outdoor re-created settings.
At Jamestown Settlement, visitors can climb aboard replicas of the three ships that brought America’s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607, try on armor and play quoits inside a re-created colonial fort, and grind corn and help fashion a dugout canoe in a Powhatan Indian village. Expansive exhibition galleries portray 17th-century Virginia in the context of its Powhatan Indian, English and west central African cultures through artifacts, films and interactive exhibits. At the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, comprehensive exhibits and films transport visitors from the beginnings of colonial unrest to the formation of the new nation. Outdoors, a re-created Continental Army encampment and Revolution-era farm provide encounters with the daily lives of soldiers and civilians. Visitors can explore soldiers’ tents, join an artillery crew, weed and water crops, and play 18th-century games.
Private tours, available year-round at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, offer families and small groups a customized and in-depth experience with a personal tour guide. Designed for parties of 14 or fewer, a private tour can be added – with advance reservations – to any admission ticket option. Visitors interested in focusing on particular subject areas – foodways, military, historical clothing or gardens – can enhance their private tour with a premium-theme add-on.
