Yorktown Victory Center of the Future
This site plan shows the location of the future Yorktown Victory Center building, outdoor interpretive areas and
parking lots. The main building entrance directly faces the roadway entrance to the museum with a distinct focal
point for arriving visitors. The positioning of the new building allows for continued operation during construction.
The Yorktown Victory Center is poised to embark on its next chapter with an imposing new facility – the façade linked to Yorktown area architecture – and a reconfigured site plan allowing for expanded, state-of-the-art gallery exhibits and enhanced outdoor interpretive programming. The original Yorktown Victory Center building, dating to 1976, was designed primarily to serve as a visitor center and has been adapted to serve evolving needs. The new plan addresses long-term exhibit, facility and operation requirements and presents an extraordinary opportunity to provide visitors a renewed perspective on the meaning and impact of the American Revolution and an exceptionally compelling experience to complement other attractions in the Yorktown-Williamsburg-Jamestown area.
Preliminary architectural design and exhibit schematic design, completed in mid-2009, were funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the state agency that operates the Yorktown Victory Center. In the next stage of the project, funding will be sought for construction of the building and renovations to the site and living-history areas, estimated to total $46 million. Private donations are anticipated to support the acquisition of artifacts for exhibit and other program elements.
