Program Descriptions

Powhatan Indian village interpreter and visitor in the gardenCultures at Jamestown: Three cultures converged at Jamestown - the Powhatan Indians, the English and the Africans - each of whom had their own unique way of life. Students compare and contrast these three cultures and learn about their interactions. View curriculum materials at Cultures at Jamestown.
Meets Virginia Social Studies Standards of Learning Objectives: VS.1, VS.3, VS.4, USI.1, USI.4.

Life at Jamestown: Introduces students to the early struggles, economic ventures and daily life in the colony through interactive demonstrations such as open-hearth cooking and musket firing. View curriculum materials for Life at Jamestown.
Meets Virginia Social Studies Standards of Learning Objectives: VS.1, VS.3, USI.1, USI.4, USI.5. 

Living With the Indians: Corn grinding, hide scraping and cordage making are some of the activities students may try in the re-created Powhatan Indian village as they explore the culture of the Powhatans. Program available for youth/student groups and Legacy Learning group participants. View curriculum materials for Living with the Indians.
Meets Virginia Social Studies Standards of Learning Objectives: k.1, 2.2, 2.3, VS.1, VS.2, USI.1, USI.3. Also available: Living With the Indians Primary Program for preschool, kindergarten and first-grade students.

Voyage to Virginia: Participants explore reproduction tools, navigational instruments and personal belongings used aboard a 17th-century ship as they learn about the voyage to the New World.
