2010 Summer Teacher Institute Contents

12 hours using teaching methods to interact with visitors in period costume.

Activities
Hands-on guided tours of Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center.
Special SOL-related interactive programs in each museum living history area.
 

Coursework
Interpretive theory and methods.
17th- and 18th-century historical content (Jamestown history, Powhatan Indians, English, African, American Revolution).
Field trips to nearby related historic sites.

Practical Application
Lesson plan development.
Reproduction artifact kits and teaching resources.
Presentation and demonstration of new skills.

Submit your application online and send a letter of recommendation from your school or district administrator as an email attachment (teacher.institute@jyf.virginia.gov) or mail you application package to:
