Yorktown Victory Center of the Future
The Yorktown Victory Center is poised to embark on its next chapter with an imposing new facility – the façade linked to Yorktown area architecture – and a reconfigured site plan allowing for expanded, state-of-the-art gallery exhibits and enhanced outdoor interpretive programming. The original Yorktown Victory Center building, dating to 1976, was designed primarily to serve as a visitor center and has been adapted to serve evolving needs. The new plan addresses long-term exhibit, facility and operation requirements and presents an extraordinary opportunity to provide visitors a renewed perspective on the meaning and impact of the American Revolution and an exceptionally compelling experience to complement other attractions in the Yorktown-Williamsburg-Jamestown area.
Architectural design and exhibit schematic design were funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, the state agency that operates the Yorktown Victory Center. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell recently announced funding to construct the new museum. Private donations are sought to support gallery and outdoor exhibits and educational resources.
